“Most of the New
Testament shakers and movers were business people…
none of the apostles were priests in the Temple. The
leaders in the early Church were business people not
theologians.”
(Peter Howard-Browne)
“The reason Paul
was able to appoint elders quickly in any place was
because he chose entrepreneurial thinkers who had
been totally transformed by Jesus.” (David Thompson)
“God has gifted
some people with certain business skills. They know
how to start new businesses. They know how to get
into new nations…God has given them a certain
eye to see, he has given them a certain blessing on
their life. The Bible says that if you have a business
and you bring it into an apostolic partnership, then
God will start to use that business to open the way.
That’s why God has given you those skills.”
(Ian McKellar)
It is clear that God is moving his
Church to the “priesthood of all believers”,
where every person is called to partner with God and
with fellow believers to see the gospel come to all
nations. But business people, because of the entrepreneurial
spirit that burns within their hearts, don’t
always realise or understand the important role they
can play in the work and call of God.
When a CEO of a company once complained
to a Christian leader that he didn’t know how
to share the gospel with a fellow worker, the leader
said something along the lines of, “Sir, you
are the CEO of a big corporation, to share a simple
message should be very easy for you.”
We want to be intentional in the
time we spend with business people during these meetings.
We believe that God wants to call, equip and empower
business people to use the opportunities, relationships
and doors that He has provided. The challenge is always
to make time for God in our busy schedules (both privately
and corporately) so that He can transform us into
“people of faith”.
We normally start our meetings with
a time of fellowship and breakfast, followed by a
speaker sharing a short message. We then spend some
time praying for the needs of the businesses represented.
Over the years many business people have experienced
breakthroughs because of these prayer times. The business
world has many challenges for marketplace Christians
and to spend time in prayer with fellow believers
is a huge encouragement.
Please consult the Monthly
Calendar for the date of our next meeting. All
Christian business people – men and women –
are welcome.
